If you are an external student requiring supervision for an end-of-semester examination the Examinations Office will send you an Official Communication (OC) approximately 8 weeks into each semester. This OC can be checked via your Official Communication Channel in OASIS. Based on your residential postal address the Examinations Office will make a determination where you will sit your examination. Where applicable, you will be directed to an online registration system where you will need to register and confirm your examination venue.
Should advice not be received from the Examinations Office by April 30 or September 30, please contact the Examinations Office immediately.
Students are divided into three different categories based on the residential postal address:
- Metropolitan - students residing within 60 kilometres of the Bentley Campus
- Students residing within 60 kilometres of a Recognised Examination Centre (REC)
- Students residing further than 60 kilometres of a Recognised Examination Centre (REC)
Metropolitan - students residing within 60 kilometres of the Bentley Campus
If you reside within 60 kilometres of the Bentley Campus you must sit your examinations at the Bentley Campus. You need take no further action upon receipt of advice of this arrangement and should present at the campus on the day(s) of their examination(s) in accordance with the Bentley examination timetable.
Students residing within 60 kilometres of a Recognised Examination Centre (REC)
If you reside within 60 kilometres of a REC you will be advised to sit your examinations at that REC. Examination papers will be forwarded to the designated REC prior to the date of the examination.
You also have the option of sitting your examinations at Bentley Campus.
If you have been advised to sit you examinations at an REC, but wish to sit at Bentley, please advise the Examinations Office that the Bentley Campus is your preferred option so that the delivery of papers to the REC can be cancelled.
Should your residential address change, and the allocated REC is no longer convenient, please contact the Examinations Office to make alternative arrangements.
Students residing further than 60 kilometres of a Recognised Examination Centre (REC)
If you reside outside 60 kilometres of an REC have the option of:
- Sitting your examination at Bentley Campus
- Nominating an REC
- Nominating your own individual supervisor*
*An individual supervisor cannot be a partner, relative, close friend or another student.

Notes, restrictions, requirements
|Tertiary or TAFE Institution||Any tertiary or TAFE institution. The supervisor may be either an administrative or academic staff member. The venue must be located at the institution.|
|Telecentre||Any official Telecentre, where the supervisor is the administrative officer of the Telecentre. The venue must be located at the Telecentre.|
|Primary/Secondary School||Any Primary or Secondary School. The supervisor may be either an Administrative Officer or Teacher at the school. The venue must be located at the School.|
|Hospitals||The supervisor must be an Administrative Officer, Registered Nurse or Doctor. The venue must be located at the Hospital.|
|Education Centre in Prison or Detention Centre||Can only be used by students studying in the Prison/Detention Centre facility. The supervisor must be employed by the Prison/Detention Centre. The venue must be located at the Prison/Detention Centre.|
|Library||Any Library recognised by the relevant State Library Board. The supervisor should be an employed staff member of the Library. The venue must be located at the Library.|
|Mine Sites||Can only be utilised for students employed on mine sites. The request to be accompanied by a letter from the employer confirming the student's employment. The venue must be suitable for examinations. The supervisor must be an employee of the mining company.|
|International Embassies||The supervisor must be an employee of the Embassy. The venue must be located at the Embassy.|
Should you be unable to nominate an individual supervisor and venue that conforms to these criteria, please contact the Examinations Office to negotiate alternative arrangements.
- You will be advised of any variation of date and time to the Bentley timetable for interstate or international locations.
- External students will receive confirmation of their examination arrangements at least one month prior to the commencement of the examination period.
- In most circumstances, Curtin University will pay the full cost of examination supervision.
